Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

A month or two ago, I noticed a lump on the soft spot on the right side base of my skull. It become the dimensions of a pencil eraser. A few nights ago, I noticed it was still there, except now it's the size of a nickel. It doesn't hurt, and it doesn't roll or move when pushed.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

A painless lump on the skull, progressively increasing in size, could indicate various conditions such as a cystic mass like a pila or mila, which may become infected and require surgical excision with antibiotic treatment. Other possibilities include lipoma, fibroma, or subgaleal collection from trauma. Lipomas can be removed with liposuction or surgical excision, while subgaleal collections may resolve spontaneously or require drainage. Confirmatory aspiration with a needle can help diagnose the type of mass, and biopsy may be needed to rule out malignancy before starting chemotherapy.

Thanks
