Hello Doctor,
I am a 29-year-old female with a tiny lump on my face next to my ear that has been there for months. At first, I thought it was a pimple, but it is not going away. It’s small, barely visible, but you can feel it. For months, it had no sensation, but recently, after touching it a lot, it feels sore and different. I’m not sure if it’s a lymph node, cyst, or something else. I had a root canal three months ago, but it should have gone away on its own if it was a lymph node. I have an appointment with my doctor on November 24, but I’m nervous.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr.Galen. Please find the below response to your query:
As a dermatologist, I understand your concern over a persistent lump on your face. It’s a good step that you’ve already scheduled an appointment with your doctor. While I can’t provide a definitive diagnosis without a physical examination, the lump could be a variety of things such as a cyst, a lipoma (benign fat tissue growth), or possibly a swollen lymph node. Most lumps are benign, especially if they’ve been stable for months. However, any change in size, shape, or sensation (like it becoming painful) should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
In the meantime, here are a few suggestions:
- Avoid touching or manipulating the lump. This can cause inflammation and make it more sensitive or possibly larger.
- If it’s causing discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers may help.
- Keep an eye on any changes in size, shape, color, or sensation. If it grows rapidly, becomes significantly more painful, or if you develop other symptoms such as fever, night sweats, or unexplained weight loss, seek medical attention immediately.
Remember, it’s important not to stress too much before your appointment. Your doctor will be able to provide a more accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan after a thorough examination.
Thanks
