Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

For the past 6 days, my legs have been swelling a lot. After cutting my leg, clear fluid has been leaking out continuously for the past 6 days, with no odor. My legs are now swollen, and it burns around the area. What should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

To alleviate the pain and swelling, I recommend a simple home remedy. Start by preparing a basin of hot water. Make sure it's not too hot to avoid burning your skin. Add some Epsom salt to the water. Epsom salt, also known as magnesium sulfate, has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce swelling and soothe the skin.

Now, immerse both of your legs in the hot water with Epsom salt for about 5 minutes. You can do this once a day, preferably before bedtime. The warm water will help increase blood circulation to the affected area, promoting healing and reducing inflammation. The Epsom salt will also aid in drawing out excess fluid from the swollen tissues.

After soaking your legs, gently pat them dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing the area vigorously, as it may irritate the skin further. You can also elevate your legs while sitting or lying down to further reduce swelling.

Thanks
