Hello Doctor,
I’ve been experiencing swelling in both of my legs for a while now, but I recently had some blood tests, and everything came back normal, including my renal function tests (RFTs) and liver function tests (LFTs). I'm concerned about the swelling, but I'm unsure what could be causing it since the tests don’t show any issues. Can you help me understand what might be going on?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Swelling in the legs, also known as pedal edema, can have various underlying causes. While your renal function tests (RFTs) and liver function tests (LFTs) are normal, it’s important to consider other factors. There are three primary systems that need to be checked: the liver, kidneys, and thyroid. Swelling can sometimes be a sign of fluid retention, heart issues, or even thyroid imbalances. Further testing might be necessary to pinpoint the exact cause. It's best to consult with your doctor for a comprehensive evaluation.
