Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I just got my liver blood work results, and I'm a bit worried. My ALT is 193 U/L, and my AST is 57 U/L. I've also been having trouble sleeping, and I think it might be due to mold exposure. Could mold poisoning be causing these high liver enzyme levels? Also, would this condition qualify me for FMLA?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Elevated liver enzymes can have many causes, including alcohol use, infections, medications, fatty liver disease, and toxin exposure. While mold exposure is not a common cause, it's important to assess all possible factors. Your ALT level is significantly elevated, which warrants further evaluation. I recommend scheduling an appointment with a doctor for a thorough examination, additional testing, and possible imaging to determine the cause. If your condition is affecting your ability to work, you may also discuss FMLA eligibility with your doctor.

Thanks
