Hello Doctor,
I encountered several dogs on the beach 29 hours ago. One of them nipped me on the lower calf, but there was no bleeding. I disinfected it with alcohol, and it looks like a scraped knee. Do I need rabies treatment?

Since there was no bleeding, you only need the rabies vaccine. A series of 5 doses is recommended on Days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28. If the bite had involved bleeding, you would need both the rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin. Also, consider a tetanus booster if it’s been over 5 years since your last one. Please consult with a healthcare provider to begin treatment.
