Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I was with my boyfriend on Saturday, and while we were intimate, there was no full penetration. However, we noticed that the condom was too small and it came off during the activity. My concern is that there may have been some contact with fluids. Should I be worried about any potential risks, like pregnancy or STDs?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

If your skin was intact during the encounter, meaning there were no cuts, wounds, or abrasions, the risk of transmission is quite low. However, it’s always a good idea to monitor for any symptoms of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and consider using emergency contraception if you’re concerned about pregnancy. If you’re still unsure, I recommend getting tested for STIs and discussing emergency contraception options with a healthcare provider.

Thanks
