Hello Doctor,
I washed my face with benzoyl peroxide, but I didn’t wash my hands with soap afterward. I then gargled with the same hands. Should I be concerned that some benzoyl peroxide might have gone into my mouth? I’m not sure if my hands were properly washed after applying the benzoyl.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
If you did not swallow the substance and didn’t feel any irritation in your mouth, it should be okay. Benzoyl peroxide is typically used topically and is unlikely to cause harm in small amounts if it comes in contact with your mouth. However, if you experience any irritation, discomfort, or other symptoms, it’s a good idea to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and monitor how you feel. If symptoms persist or worsen, it may be helpful to consult with a healthcare provider for further advice.
Thanks
