Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have a yeast infection in my armpit, and I've been using an antifungal powder. It seems to be helping, but the rash is still there and itchy. The powder makes the area dry—should I continue using it, switch to a lotion, or stop applying anything altogether?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. It’s good that you’ve noticed some improvement with the antifungal powder, as it is generally more suitable for areas like the armpits, where moisture can worsen yeast infections. However, since the rash is still present and causing itching, it’s important to ensure that you are treating the correct condition. While continuing with the powder may help, persistent symptoms could indicate that a stronger antifungal treatment, such as a cream or oral medication, might be needed.

2. I recommend scheduling a consultation with a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and determine if any additional treatment is necessary. Sometimes, conditions like contact dermatitis or bacterial infections can mimic a yeast infection, so a professional evaluation can help guide the best course of action. In the meantime, keep the area dry, avoid applying lotions that may trap moisture, and wear loose-fitting clothing to allow better airflow.

Thanks
