Hello Doctor,
I had a 14Fr pigtail SP catheter replaced with a SP Foley three weeks ago. I'm currently on antibiotics and don't have a drainage bag. Recently, the end of my penis has been stinging after I void, but this never happened before today. The Foley catheter has been partly blocked or pinched at the bladder since it was inserted, but no one will flush it or replace it because it's still considered too new. Can you help me understand why this is happening?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. If the catheter is draining properly, the stinging sensation you're experiencing after voiding is likely due to bladder spasms. Bladder spasms can occur when the bladder contracts involuntarily, often in response to irritation from the catheter.
2. These spasms can cause discomfort, including stinging or a feeling of urgency. It's important to monitor your symptoms closely, but if the catheter is draining correctly and there are no signs of infection or obstruction, this could just be a temporary reaction.
3. However, if the pain persists or worsens, it may be helpful to consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Thanks
