Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have oxybutynin chloride 5mg., and I was wondering if it’s considered an antimuscarinic medication? I am an older male with diabetes and have difficulty with my bladder not releasing enough urine.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Yes, oxybutynin chloride 5mg is an antimuscarinic medication. It works by blocking the action of acetylcholine on the bladder muscles, helping to reduce urinary urgency and frequency. This can be helpful for managing bladder issues, such as the one you described.

However, since you have diabetes, it’s important to monitor your symptoms closely and consult your healthcare provider regularly to ensure the medication is working effectively and safely for you.

Thanks
