Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Yesterday, while using the restroom, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my lower right side. The pain went away after a while, but now today it's come back. However, this time, I also have pain in my lower back. What could be causing this, and should I be concerned?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Based on your symptoms, it's possible that you might be experiencing a kidney stone. To confirm the diagnosis, I recommend undergoing an abdominal ultrasound, along with blood work that includes a CBC with differential, CRP, urea, creatinine, and a complete urine workup.

2. A urine culture to check for bacterial infection, along with antibiotic susceptibility testing, would also be important. In the meantime, you can take Spasmex three times daily to help with any spasms, and if you're not allergic, you can use an NSAID like Ibuprofen or Ketoprofen to manage pain and inflammation.

Thanks
