Hello Doctor,
2-3 years ago, I was sitting in a chair, and when I got ready to leave, I put both hands on the table and stood up. I heard a pop and felt a tear in my lower back. For about two weeks, I had a burning sensation in my lower back and couldn't sleep or sit still. Now, at times, my skin bulges out, and my fiancé has to rub it.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
I understand how disturbing your complaint might be. Based on the information you provided, the causes of your symptoms could be the following:
-
Bulging or Herniated Disc: This occurs when the inner, jelly-like portion of the spinal disc bulges out through a tear in the outer portion. These discs act as shock absorbers and allow movement between the vertebrae. When a disc bulges, it may compress or make contact with a nerve, leading to pain. Most bulging discs occur at the bottom of the lumbar spine (Lumbar 4/5 Vertebrae). Symptoms can include back pain that worsens with movement, muscle spasms, weakness, numbness in the legs and feet, and reduced mobility.
-
Strains or Sprains: Injuries to the lower back muscles can result in pain and bruising, often due to stress or sudden movements.
-
Arthritis: Inflammation of the joints, including the vertebrae, may also contribute to your back pain.
I recommend seeing a Neurosurgeon or an Orthopedic surgeon, and it would be best to get Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to further investigate your condition.
Thanks
