Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

Why am I always hungry? I am 17 and I am always feeling hungry. I primarily eat healthy, with no soda or chips. I eat 3-5 full meals a day, including oatmeal, fruit, veggies, and meat. I drink over 10 glasses of water a day, and I do not gain weight. I am 5'8" and 130 lbs. I am physically active. Why am I so hungry? What can I do to stay full longer?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It sounds like you’re maintaining a healthy diet and staying active, which is great!

However, feeling constantly hungry could be related to various factors, one of which might be your blood sugar levels (glycemia).

Low or fluctuating blood sugar can trigger hunger even if you’re eating nutritious meals. I would recommend checking your blood sugar levels to see if they are stable.

Additionally, ensuring that your meals have a good balance of protein, healthy fats, and fiber can help you feel fuller for longer.

If your blood sugar levels are normal, it might be worth considering if your body’s energy needs are higher due to your activity level, and adjusting your meal timing or portion sizes could help.

If the issue persists, I suggest discussing it with your healthcare provider for further evaluation.

Thanks
