Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been experiencing sharp pain on the bottom side of my left foot near the arch, and there’s also tingling in my big toe. It gets worse when I walk. Could this be related to a nerve issue?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. The symptoms you’re describing, such as the sharp pain and tingling sensation, could be indicative of nerve irritation. It’s possible that this is neuropathic pain, which can be caused by conditions like diabetic neuropathy. Medications like Gabapentin (Neurontin) are commonly used to manage such pain.

2. Alternatively, the pain may be radiating from an issue in your lower back, such as a herniated disc compressing a nerve.

3. I recommend consulting a neurologist to differentiate between these possibilities and determine the appropriate treatment. A neurologist can perform a detailed evaluation, including imaging studies and nerve tests, to identify the exact cause of your symptoms.

Thanks
