Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing ankle pain since landing wrong during gymnastics. It clicks and feels a bit swollen, and I get stabbing pains randomly. Do I need to have this checked out, even though I can still walk on it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Given your symptoms and the nature of your activity, it's advisable to wear a CAM boot for 2-3 weeks if there's no fracture. Gymnastics can put a lot of stress on your ankles, and wearing the boot will help stabilize the joint and prevent future sprains by allowing the ligaments to heal properly. It's essential to get an X-ray first to rule out any fractures. If the X-ray is negative, wearing the boot for the recommended duration should aid in your recovery and prevent further injury.

Thanks
