Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been having a big problem with my appetite. It used to be really good, but now I hardly feel like eating anything. Even when I do manage to eat, I quickly feel full and just don't want to eat anymore. This worries me a lot because it's affecting how well I eat and how much energy I have. I've also noticed that I've been losing weight, and I don't enjoy meals like I used to. I'm not sure what's causing this sudden change, but it's been going on for quite some time now.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

A significant decrease in appetite, accompanied by early satiety and noticeable weight loss, are indeed symptoms that warrant investigation. While there could be various underlying reasons for these symptoms, it's essential to evaluate your gastrointestinal health comprehensively.

To start, I recommend scheduling an appointment for a thorough physical examination and discussion of your medical history. Based on your symptoms, further diagnostic tests may be necessary. These may include laboratory tests to assess for any underlying medical conditions, such as thyroid disorders or nutrient deficiencies.

Given the nature of your symptoms, imaging studies such as an ultrasound of the abdomen and an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy may be warranted. These tests can help identify any structural abnormalities or gastrointestinal issues that could be contributing to your symptoms.

In addition to medical evaluation, it's essential to consider other factors that may be influencing your appetite and overall well-being. Psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, or depression can also impact appetite and eating habits. Therefore, addressing any underlying psychological concerns through counseling or therapy may be beneficial.

Thanks
