Hello Doctor,
A few hours ago, while I was showering, I noticed a small lump on the outside of my vulva, about the size of a BB pellet. Thinking it might be a blackhead or an ingrown hair, I squeezed it really hard to try and get the gunk out. After squeezing, the lump turned dark red, became slightly bloody, and now looks more pronounced—almost like a skin tag but red and firm. It still feels solid to the touch, and I’m worried that I might have pushed it inside out from applying too much pressure. A little bit of blood has gotten onto my underwear, and I’m unsure if I made it worse. Should I be concerned?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
It's important to have this examined by a doctor to determine what it is. The lump could be a cyst, an inflamed gland, or in some cases, a small vascular growth. Since it has changed in appearance and bled after squeezing, it’s best not to manipulate it further. Some lumps, like Bartholin’s cysts or sebaceous cysts, can develop in that area, while other possibilities include endometriosis or, in rare cases, a tumor. A proper evaluation, which may include a physical exam and possibly imaging or a biopsy if needed, will help determine the cause. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis, so I recommend scheduling a consultation as soon as possible.
Thanks
