Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had an endoscopy performed five years ago, and I feel like my throat never fully recovered. I sing a lot, especially musical theater, which requires very high notes. My voice strains whenever I try to go high, like my throat is contracting. It bothers me because I feel like I’ve lost my talent, even though I can still sing to a point. What can I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The issue that led to your endoscopy might still be affecting your vocal cords. It's important to see a phoniatric doctor, who specializes in vocal cord function. They can prescribe vocal treatment sessions, which usually have great results in improving vocal performance.

Thanks
