Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m concerned because I accidentally gave my 9-month-old an extra dose of infant Motrin drops before the recommended 6-hour interval. What should I do? Is there a risk of giving too much medication, and how can I ensure my baby stays safe?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It’s important to avoid giving an extra dose of medication like infant Motrin, as doing so can lead to overdose and related adverse effects. Some potential issues include gastritis, sleeplessness, and, in rare cases, breathing difficulties.

In most cases, a single extra dose may not cause serious health issues. However, I recommend monitoring your child closely for any unusual symptoms. If you notice any concerning signs or if your child seems unwell, please consult an emergency physician for further evaluation.

Thanks
