Hello Doctor,
I had a semen analysis done, and here are the results. The sperm concentration is 15 million/mL, total sperm count is 45 million/ejaculate, and the sperm motility is quite low. Only 9% are progressive, with the majority being non-progressive or immotile. My sperm morphology shows 98% abnormal forms. The report mentions that I have oligoasthenoteratozoospermia. What does this mean, and do I have any fertility issues? Should I be concerned?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Yes, based on your semen analysis, it appears that there are some concerns with sperm count and motility, as well as a high percentage of abnormal sperm forms. However, this isn't necessarily a major issue.
2. It would be helpful to know if you have children already, as that can provide more context. Also, you didn't mention any underlying conditions, such as diabetes or hypertension, which could affect your sperm quality. I recommend undergoing some additional laboratory tests, including blood sugar levels, kidney, and liver function, as well as a hormonal profile (FSH, LH, Prolactin, and Testosterone).
3. If you have a partner, it’s also a good idea for them to be examined. In many cases like yours, medical treatment can be very beneficial, and after 3 months of treatment, you can repeat the semen analysis to assess any improvements.
Thanks
