Hello Doctor,
A bat flew around our warehouse today and got stuck inside. It swooped very close to me. I’ve read rabies is transmitted by bites, but I’m worried about being in close proximity. Do I need to be concerned? The bat was thrown out, and I can’t get it tested.
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Rabies is only transmitted through bites or direct contact with saliva, so just being near a bat doesn’t pose a risk. If you weren’t bitten or scratched, there’s no need for concern. If you’re still anxious or unsure, consult a healthcare provider for peace of mind.
Thanks
