Hello Doctor,
I recently had a successful medical abortion at home using misoprostol. I believe I passed the fetus, as it looked like a tiny baby. Since then, I have been using antibiotics and pain medication, but I'm still experiencing occasional blood clots and heavy bleeding. I also get dizzy spells sometimes, and I’m really worried because it’s been 6 weeks since the abortion and I’m still bleeding. I tried having sex, and it made the bleeding worse. When the bleeding eases up and I have sex again, it just gets heavy again. Can you please tell me what might be going wrong?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
First and foremost, it’s important that you avoid having sex while you are still bleeding. Engaging in sexual activity can aggravate the bleeding and cause further complications. Given that you’ve been bleeding for 6 weeks, I strongly recommend that you see a gynecologist for an evaluation. It’s possible that there may be retained tissue inside the uterus, which could be causing the prolonged bleeding. A procedure like a curettage (D&C) might be needed to clear any remaining tissue. Additionally, it’s essential that you undergo a blood examination to check for any potential underlying issues, such as anemia or infection, which could be contributing to your symptoms. Please make an appointment with a healthcare provider as soon as possible to address these concerns.
Thanks
