Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I was on birth control for three years, stopped for a month, and then restarted about two weeks ago. A few days ago, I had unprotected sex and took Plan B within an hour. Now, I’m really anxious about the possibility of pregnancy. Since I had a gap in my birth control use and only restarted recently, what are the chances that I could actually be pregnant?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Since you recently restarted birth control, your body may still be adjusting. Taking Plan B within an hour was a good step, but no method is 100% effective. To be sure, take a home pregnancy test in 10-14 days or see a doctor for confirmation if you have symptoms like a missed period or nausea. If you're worried, getting checked can give you peace of mind.

Thanks
