Hello Doctor,
I’m really confused and need some advice. I last had sex on December 27th, and before that, I had some health concerns related to pregnancy. I tested positive on four pregnancy tests dating back to November last year, with the most recent test taken on January 2nd. However, despite having five ultrasound scans, none have shown any signs of pregnancy. One thing that did show up was fluid in the POD. My period was supposed to start three days ago, but it hasn’t, and instead, I’ve been having mild abdominal pain. Could I still be pregnant, or is something else going on?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Your situation is a bit complex, and there are a few possibilities to consider. While you’ve had multiple positive pregnancy tests in the past, the fact that your ultrasounds have not shown any signs of pregnancy raises concerns. One important possibility is an ectopic pregnancy, which may not always be visible on an early ultrasound but could explain the presence of fluid in the Pouch of Douglas (POD).
2. To clarify your status, I strongly recommend taking another pregnancy test. If it is positive, you should see a doctor immediately to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, as this can be a serious condition requiring prompt medical attention. If the test is negative, your delayed period and abdominal pain could be due to hormonal imbalances, ovarian cysts, or other gynecological conditions that need further evaluation. A repeat ultrasound and blood tests (such as beta-hCG levels) can provide more clarity.
Thanks
