Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

On November 7th, I had my period, which lasted until the 10th of November. On the 14th of November, I had sex around 9 PM, and I took the Lydia emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) on the 15th of November at around 11 AM. Later, on the 25th of November, I had sex again at 7 PM, and I took the ECP at 10 PM. Then, on the 29th of November, I experienced mild bleeding that lasted for about 3 days, ending on the 1st of December. On December 28th, I took a pregnancy test, and I saw one line and a very faint second line, which was hardly noticeable. On December 29th, I had heavy flow for the first day, and on the 30th, the flow was still heavy with small red blood clots and some white patches. Could this be a sign of pregnancy or is it related to the emergency contraceptive pills? I'm worried and would appreciate your guidance.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on the information you've provided, it is important for you to undergo a transvaginal ultrasound and a quantitative beta-hCG test. These tests will help assess whether you're pregnant or if there are any other underlying issues. The faint line on the pregnancy test could be inconclusive, and the bleeding could be a result of hormonal changes due to the emergency contraceptive pills. It's best to follow up with these tests to get a clear and accurate result. Please consult your healthcare provider for the necessary steps.

Thanks
