Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m currently pregnant and dealing with a bad cough and congestion. Can I take Tussin DM MAX to help with these symptoms, or is it not safe during pregnancy?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

It is generally better to avoid taking Tussin DM MAX during pregnancy, as it can sometimes cause allergic reactions, and we want to ensure your safety and that of your baby.

Cough and congestion during pregnancy can sometimes worsen, so it's important to have these symptoms evaluated by a healthcare provider. In some cases, a chest X-ray with an abdominal shield to protect your baby might be necessary for a thorough evaluation.

The appropriate treatment will depend on the specific diagnosis, so I recommend seeing your doctor to determine the best course of action.

Thanks
