Hello Doctor,
I recently had a transvaginal ultrasound of my lower abdomen and would like help understanding the results. My medical history includes CIN 3 and CIN 2, a right tube tied, and a left tube removed—this was 9 years ago. I have been experiencing bloating, abdominal pain, and unexpected weight gain. I also got a faint positive on a urine pregnancy test and a level 3 HCG blood test. Additionally, I have noticed milk coming from my breasts when squeezed. Could you help interpret my ultrasound results and let me know what might be causing these symptoms?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. Based on your symptoms—bloating, abdominal pain, faint positive urine test, level 3 HCG blood test, and a history of tubal surgery—there is a concern for a possible ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube. Given your history of a tied right tube and removed left tube, this possibility should be urgently ruled out.
2. You should seek immediate medical attention to confirm or rule out an ectopic pregnancy. This typically involves a repeat HCG blood test to check if levels are rising appropriately and a detailed transvaginal ultrasound to locate the pregnancy. If an ectopic pregnancy is confirmed, treatment options may include medication (methotrexate) or surgery depending on the severity and location.
3. Additionally, your symptom of milky discharge from the breasts (galactorrhea) may be related to hormonal imbalances, possibly from elevated prolactin levels or other endocrine factors. This should also be evaluated alongside your primary concern.
Thanks
