Hello Doctor,
My last period started on December 17th, and my cycles are usually 28 to 31 days. I had unprotected intercourse on December 30th and took Unwanted 72 about 2 hours later. From December 31st to January 5th, I had some mild bleeding, but on January 6th and 7th, the bleeding became heavier. Today, on January 8th, I vomited once. Could this be a sign of pregnancy, or is it related to something else?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
1. It's good that you took emergency contraception soon after unprotected intercourse, as it significantly reduces the risk of pregnancy. The bleeding you experienced could be a side effect of the pill, as it can cause changes to your menstrual cycle, including spotting or heavier-than-usual bleeding.
2. However, since you are concerned about pregnancy, the best way to confirm is to take a urine pregnancy test. You can do this about 2-3 weeks after the unprotected intercourse or if your next period is delayed. If the test is positive or if you continue to experience unusual symptoms, consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation.
