Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had undergone tubal ligation a few years ago, and after that, I had unprotected sex with my ex-husband for about 2-3 years without any pregnancy. Now, I've remarried and am wondering if there's any chance of pregnancy if I have unprotected sex with my new partner. I do not want a baby, but I still want to engage in unprotected sex. Is pregnancy still possible in my situation?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

After tubal ligation, the risk of pregnancy is very low, but not completely eliminated. The risk of pregnancy is less than 1%, and over time, this risk could increase slightly due to possible changes in the procedure's effectiveness. If you miss a period or experience any other signs of pregnancy, it would be a good idea to take a test or consult with a healthcare provider. While the chances are small, it’s important to stay aware.

Thanks
