Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I recently became pregnant, and around the 9th week, I started experiencing severe abdominal pain. At 10 weeks, I had a medical abortion using the abortion pill, and the pain stopped for about two days. However, the pain has now returned and persists, along with nausea, headaches, and occasional fever. Two days ago, I went to the ER, and they diagnosed me with an abdominal infection. I’m really concerned about my symptoms and the ongoing pain. Can you help me understand what might be going on and what steps I should take next?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your symptoms, including the return of abdominal pain, nausea, headaches, and fever following your medical abortion, this could indicate a serious infection. In mild cases, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications can often help to manage the infection and relieve symptoms. It's important to follow the prescribed course of treatment to ensure the infection does not worsen.

However, if the infection is severe, surgical intervention may be required, especially if there are concerns about complications such as abscess formation or damage to internal organs.Timely treatment is essential to prevent further complications and support your recovery. Please do not delay in seeking further medical attention.

Thanks
