Hello Doctor,
I'm 21 years old and have a concern I hope you can help clarify. My partner and I had protected sex for the first time on August 10, 2024. It wasn’t a complete intercourse, but to be extra cautious, I took an emergency contraceptive pill within 20 hours. My period or withdrawal bleeding occurred on my usual date, August 19. However, on September 8, I noticed a small, watery, slightly cloudy discharge from my nipples. There's no pain or tenderness, but it's been happening for the last three days, though only a tiny amount when pressed (like a dot).
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
The discharge you’re experiencing could indicate early pregnancy, possibly with complications like a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. While it could rarely be an infection, the emergency contraceptive pill you took (if hormonal) can sometimes cause delayed menses as well. To be sure, it’s important to get a pregnancy test—either urine or blood if the urine test is inconclusive. A scan may also be necessary following a physical examination. If you wish to avoid pregnancy, consider using a regular, more effective contraceptive method.
Thanks
