Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I have been trying to conceive for the past two years, and my recent scan showed a significant amount of fluid in the pouch of Douglas. All my other fertility tests came back normal. Could this fluid be affecting my chances of getting pregnant? Is there a way to improve my fertility despite this condition?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

The presence of fluid in the pouch of Douglas can be due to various factors, such as ovulation, infections, endometriosis, or pelvic inflammatory disease. While some cases may not impact fertility, others could indicate an underlying condition that requires treatment. It is essential to identify the exact cause of the fluid accumulation through further evaluation, including a pelvic ultrasound, infection screening, or laparoscopy if needed. Once the underlying issue is treated, your chances of conceiving may improve. I recommend consulting a fertility specialist to assess your condition and explore possible treatment options.

Thanks
