Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’ve been feeling something strange inside my left cheek. It feels like two layers of tissue, but it’s not a ball. On the outside of my face, it looks round, but it doesn’t hurt. However, when I try to eat and open my mouth, it hurts briefly. Once my mouth is open, the pain stops, but it comes back every time I try to open my mouth again. What could this be? Should I be worried?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on your description, it sounds like you may have accidentally bitten your cheek while chewing, which can cause irritation or mild swelling. This can sometimes feel like a layered tissue inside your cheek. If you notice any small ulcers or sores in that area, it could be due to the bite. These typically heal on their own within a week.

However, if the pain persists for more than a week or if you notice any unusual changes, I would recommend getting a clinical examination to rule out any other causes. It's always a good idea to keep an eye on it, and if it doesn't improve, please seek further evaluation from a healthcare provider.

Thanks
