Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I burned my mouth, and a few days later, a very painful sore appeared on the roof of my mouth. It seemed to be getting better the next day, but it still looks very raw and is very sensitive. Could you please tell me what it is and how I should best deal with it?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Diagnosis: The sore on the roof of your mouth is likely gingival inflammation resulting from the burn.

2. Healing Time: It typically takes around a week for this type of sore to subside.

3. Dietary Recommendations: To facilitate faster healing, avoid consuming spicy and hot foods for the next few days.

4. Comfort Measures:

Stick to soft, cool foods and beverages to minimize irritation.

Rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution several times a day to reduce inflammation and keep the area clean.

Thanks
