Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I had a miscarriage about a year ago, and I'm concerned about whether there could be any potential complications arising from it. Lately, I've been experiencing symptoms like bad-smelling discharge, dark and foul-smelling urine, headaches, a lack of balance, excessive sleepiness, fatigue, and low energy. I took 1500 mg of penicillin daily for 10 days, and while most of these symptoms improved during that time, I still have a mild odor and pasty discharge now.

Could these ongoing symptoms be related to something from my miscarriage, or should I be worried about a new issue?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on the symptoms you've described, it sounds like you may have had a urinary tract infection (UTI), which could explain why you saw improvement with antibiotics. However, considering your current symptoms, it's possible that you're now dealing with a secondary yeast infection, such as candida, which can sometimes occur after taking antibiotics.

This is actually quite common. I would recommend trying a Canesten pessary, which should help alleviate the symptoms. If you have any further concerns or if the symptoms persist, please feel free to reach out for more guidance.

Thanks
