Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

It's been 2 days since I have a headache and fever at the same time. I take paracetamol to cope with the pain, but it only provides relief for a few minutes before the pain returns. The headache is on one side of my head and feels like a pulsing or throbbing sensation. What could be causing this, and what should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Based on your description, your headache sounds like a migraine, especially since it is one-sided and has a throbbing or pulsing sensation. Migraines can also be triggered by factors like stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, or even certain foods. Since you have a fever as well, it is important to rule out any underlying infections or other medical conditions.

2. Paracetamol may provide temporary relief, but migraines often require specific medications, such as triptans or NSAIDs, for better management. Staying hydrated, resting in a dark and quiet room, and avoiding triggers may also help. If the pain persists or worsens, or if you experience symptoms like vision changes, confusion, or weakness, it would be best to seek medical attention for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.

Thanks
