Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I haven't had a period since a car accident I was in, and I'm currently 31 days late. There's no chance that I'm pregnant, but I'm concerned. What should I do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Experiencing a delayed period after a traumatic event like a car accident is not uncommon. Stress from such events can cause the release of cortisol, which may delay your period or result in a lighter period that you might not have noticed. However, it's important to have a gynecological check-up and possibly an ultrasound of your abdomen to ensure there are no residual effects from the trauma. Checking your hormone levels at your doctor’s office can also provide additional insight into the situation. If you're concerned or if the delay continues, it's a good idea to consult with a healthcare provider.

Thanks
