Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been feeling extremely tired lately, and I've noticed weakness in my muscles. Sometimes I even feel short of breath, especially when I'm doing simple activities like walking or climbing stairs. Could this be related to something serious?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes your body to excrete too much protein in the urine, leading to fluid retention and swelling.

2. In some cases, fluid can accumulate in the pleural space around the lungs, leading to pleural effusion, which is the buildup of fluid between the layers of tissue lining the lungs and chest cavity. This can cause symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, or difficulty breathing.

3. If you are experiencing pleural effusion in the context of nephrotic syndrome, it's important to manage the underlying kidney condition.

4. This may involve medications like diuretics to remove excess fluid, corticosteroids to reduce inflammation, or treatments aimed at controlling the causes of nephrotic syndrome, such as immune suppression or managing any infections.

5. Please consult your healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation and appropriate treatment options.
