Hello Doctor,
I am a 40-year-old male, and my recent creatinine level is 1.25. I have been taking Fenofibrate 200 mg daily for lipid control and recently started Telmisartan 40 mg for blood pressure management. Should I be concerned about my creatinine level, and could these medications have any impact on my kidney function?
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.
Fibrates are not the ideal medication at this stage of kidney function, especially considering your history of high blood pressure. Starting Telmisartan 40 mg is a good choice for blood pressure control, but it can sometimes lead to a slight elevation in creatinine levels. My advice is to closely monitor your creatinine and kidney function, including creatinine clearance and electrolyte levels, on a weekly basis. If there are any significant changes, a medication adjustment may be necessary. Regular follow-ups with your doctor are recommended.
Thanks
