Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been experiencing patches of dry skin between my testicles and around my anus. Whenever I scratch it, the skin peels off, and it's incredibly itchy and irritated. I've ruled out parasites and hemorrhoids through testing. Could this be eczema? How can I alleviate this itching and irritation?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

I understand the discomfort you're facing, and I'm glad you reached out. The patches of dry, itchy skin between your testicles and around your anus could indeed be eczema. Here's some general advice to help manage your symptoms:

1. Keep the area clean and dry: Avoid friction and sweating in the affected areas. Use plain water or mild, unscented cleansers while bathing.

2. Moisturize: Apply a thick layer of unscented or hypoallergenic moisturizer to the affected areas immediately after washing or bathing.

3. Use over-the-counter topical drugs: Consider using creams containing corticosteroids or topical immunomodulators to reduce inflammation and itching, following your doctor's advice.

4. Avoid triggers: Identify and avoid triggers like stress, fragrances, soaps, and detergents that may worsen eczema flare-ups.

5. Wear appropriate clothing: Opt for breathable fabrics and avoid tight-fitting clothing.

However, I strongly recommend scheduling an appointment with your dermatologist as soon as possible. They can examine the affected area in person and provide specific treatment options tailored to your condition.

Thanks
