Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

My body has been itching for 6 months, and there are small red bumps on my head, neck, hands, thighs, buttocks, on the scrotum, and the tip of my penis. I am 17 years old and a student, and I don’t have any sexual partners. I went to a physician who gave me medicine for 15 days (Candiforce, Bilastine, and Mactotal). After the medication, it still was not cured. I went to the same physician again, and he suggested the same medicines, but instead of one dose of Candiforce, he said to take it two times a day for 15 days. Still no cure. Then I went to a government hospital, where the doctor gave me Levocetirizine, Doxycycline, and Permethrin lotion. After this, only 10% has improved, and now my whole head is itching, burning, and I have red rashes everywhere on my body.

Hello,
Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

You’ve been prescribed several medications that address a range of conditions, including fungal infections and allergies. However, it seems that your symptoms persist despite these treatments, which indicates that the root cause might not have been identified or addressed properly. As a dermatologist, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Continued Medication: Continue with the prescribed medications as directed by your doctor. Sometimes, it takes time for the body to respond to the treatment.
  2. Hygiene: Maintain good personal hygiene. Bathe daily and change into clean, dry clothes.
  3. Over-the-counter Treatments: Consider using over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream to help relieve itching. However, it’s crucial not to use this for a prolonged period without consulting a doctor.
  4. Avoid Scratching: As hard as it might be, try to avoid scratching the itchy areas as it could lead to further inflammation and potential infection.
  5. Telemedicine: Since you live in a village with no doctor, consider seeking help through telemedicine platforms. Many apps and websites offer consultations with dermatologists who can provide advice based on your symptoms and history.

However, given the persistence of your symptoms and their spread to sensitive areas like the scrotum and penis, it’s important to seek professional medical attention. Reach out to any healthcare professional you can access, explain your situation and the treatments you have tried, and follow their advice. Remember, although it might be frustrating, it’s crucial to continue seeking help until you find a solution. It’s also important to note that while online advice can be helpful, it’s not a substitute for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan from a healthcare professional.

Thanks
