Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I just had a small urgent medical question. What would it be if Its just really sore right here on the left side of my belly button. And to the left right here. It don’t hurt at all during the day or anything or when I bend over. It’s just really tender and sore when I push on it.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

If you are experiencing soreness on the left side of your belly button, it could be due to various reasons. The pain in the lower left abdomen can be caused by conditions such as diverticulitis, or even pancreatitis. Diverticulitis can cause sudden and severe pain along with symptoms like constipation, diarrhea, fever, and nausea. Pancreatitis, on the other hand, can lead to pain on the upper left side of the abdomen that worsens after meals and may radiate to the back.

It is essential to seek medical attention if you experience persistent or severe symptoms. Treatment for lower left abdominal pain will depend on the underlying cause, which can be diagnosed through various techniques like CT scans, ultrasound imaging, and physical examinations.

In some cases, mild conditions may resolve on their own with lifestyle changes or medications, while more severe cases might require hospitalization or surgery. If you have significant and ongoing discomfort or pain in your belly button area, it is advisable to consult a doctor to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment.

Remember that abdominal pain should not be ignored, especially if it is severe, accompanied by other symptoms like fever or vomiting, or if it interferes with your daily activities.

Thanks
