Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I've been taking 40mg of prednisone for the past 4 days, but unfortunately, I haven't noticed any improvement in my lung condition. Alongside this, I'm experiencing a persistent wet cough.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Regarding your current situation, in addition to the treatments we've previously discussed for managing asthma, infections, and allergies, it's important to consider other possible causes for your symptoms. We should explore the potential involvement of cardiac or heart issues, as well as the presence of a pleural effusion contributing to your cough.

If a pleural effusion is suspected, it may be necessary to perform a chest tube drainage procedure in conjunction with antibiotic therapy to address the underlying infection. Additionally, for managing cardiac heart failure, implementing water pills or diuretics alongside appropriate antihypertensive medications can be beneficial. It's crucial to prioritize rest and maintain a cardiac-friendly sleeping position. Adopting a diet rich in potassium and low in sodium salt can also support your overall health.

I strongly recommend scheduling a visit with your primary care physician for a thorough evaluation and further guidance.

Thanks
