Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

How can I speed up the healing process for a burn caused by hot water? Currently, I'm using Vaseline and Savlon, cleansing with warm water, and covering it with a bandage.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

First-Degree Burn (Epidermal Skin):

Apply Vaseline gauze with antibiotics.

Use dermazine or silver sulfadiazine cream/ointment.

Change dressing every other day.

Medication:

Administer prophylactic tetanus toxoid.

Provide oral analgesics (e.g., 25mg indomethacin every 8 hours).

Use oral antibiotics (e.g., 1g ampiclox every 6 hours for one week).

Dressing Duration:

Continue dressing until proper wound healing.

Second- or Third-Degree Burn:

Consider consultation with a plastic surgeon for possible skin graft.

Follow initial management steps.

Thanks
