Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m feeling a bit off today and think I might have a fever, but I haven’t checked my temperature yet. Can I take paracetamol just in case? Not really sure what’s causing it.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

1. Yes, you can take paracetamol to help lower your fever and feel more comfortable. It’s safe when taken at the right dose—usually 500 mg to 1000 mg every 4–6 hours, but don’t exceed 4000 mg in 24 hours.

2. However, paracetamol only helps with the symptom, not the cause. Fever is usually a sign of an infection or another issue in the body. It’s important to find out what’s causing it, especially if the fever lasts more than 2–3 days, gets very high, or you have other symptoms like a cough, sore throat, chills, pain, or fatigue.

3. If you're unsure about the cause or the fever continues, it's best to speak with a doctor for proper advice and treatment.

Thanks
