Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I developed a cold sore for the first time two days ago, and now I have a fever and swollen lymph nodes. Is this normal, and should I be concerned?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

A cold sore is typically caused by the herpes simplex virus, and it can sometimes lead to additional symptoms like fever and swollen lymph nodes. These are common when the body is fighting an infection. It's normal for some people to experience these symptoms, especially during the first outbreak. However, if the fever persists, or if the swollen lymph nodes become painful or do not improve, it's important to seek medical attention.

Thanks
