Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I tested positive for COVID again, and my ear is hurting. It's not as severe as my first time with COVID, but I'm concerned. What should I do about the ear pain?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Context: COVID-19 is primarily a respiratory disease but can have varied symptoms.

Symptom: Ear pain is not a common symptom of COVID-19.

Recommendation: Proper evaluation is necessary.

Physical Examination: Auroscope examination to check for ear canal lesions.

Diagnostic Tests: Ear swab for culture and sensitivity to determine appropriate antibiotics.

Consideration: Possibility of impacted earwax, which may require irrigation.

Pain Management:

Medication: NSAIDs like diclofenac or ibuprofen can help manage pain.

Consultation: If pain persists, consult an ENT specialist for further evaluation, such as audiometry.

Thanks
