Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I tested positive for COVID-19 but started having symptoms two weeks ago. It's now been ten days since my symptoms improved, but my at-home test still shows a faint line. Can I safely leave my house? Do I need to wear a mask, or is my 10-day isolation enough?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Persistent Positive Test: If your covid test remains positive after 10 days, it suggests the potential presence of active viral particles in your system, which could make you contagious to others.

Antiviral Medications: Antiviral medications can help expedite the clearance of the virus from your body, reducing the risk of transmission and complications.

Vaccination: Regardless of your previous covid infection, it's strongly recommended to get vaccinated if you haven't already. COVID-19 vaccines offer substantial protection against severe illness, hospitalization, and transmission. They complement your immunity and contribute to community-wide immunity.

It's crucial to consult a healthcare provider, preferably your primary care physician, for personalized guidance. If Covid-positive, consider vaccination once cleared. Continue using face masks and maintain distance to prevent transmission.

Thanks
