Patient Question

Hello Doctor,

I’m a 17-year-old male, and during my eye checkup, I was diagnosed with short-sightedness. I was prescribed glasses with a power of 0.5 sph and 0.25 cyl in my right eye, and 0.25 cyl in my left eye. However, when I wear the glasses, I get a heavy headache. Interestingly, I can see far objects clearly without wearing the glasses and don’t experience any headaches. Should I continue wearing the glasses, or is it okay to skip them?

Hello

Thank you for reaching out to Dr. Galen. Please find the below response to your query.

Based on what you've described, if you're able to see distant objects clearly without wearing your glasses and don't experience any discomfort or headaches, it’s likely that you don’t need to wear them for distance vision. The prescription you’ve been given is relatively mild, and if you're not experiencing issues with your vision in daily activities, it's okay to skip wearing them.

However, it's important to remember that glasses can help with visual comfort and prevent eye strain, especially during tasks like reading or working on a computer. If you're unsure, it might be helpful to revisit your eye care provider to discuss your symptoms and get further guidance on whether glasses are necessary for specific situations.

Thanks
